Frequently Asked Questions

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a relationship of support that allows you to change your life through a powerful goal-setting and accountability framework.  We work as a team, to help you identify bad habits, take action to flip the script and build good habits.  I support you and keep you motivated until you are confident that you can get through your rough patches.

Why do you call it “Chronic Illness Coaching?”

There are many kinds of coaching, all with their own unique purpose.  Chronic illness presents a unique set of challenges that encompass all aspects of your life including your career, physical health, mental health, and social life.

My chronic illness coaching addresses all of these aspects using science backed methods to tackle your goals in a sustainable way.  So whether you’re struggling to balance your health and career, or you have been ignoring your social life in order to maintain your career and health, together we can identify what is standing in your way and a path forward.

What is Chronic Illness?

Any health condition or disease that lasts for an extended period of time and is interfering with your life in some way.  This could be chronic pain, neurological, cardiac, renal issues, diabetes, autoimmune disease, migraines, traumatic brain injury, or lasting complications from cancer or injury. You might have a visible disability or an invisible disability.  No matter what your condition, we can find the path forwards.

When can I expect results from coaching?

As with most things, every person is different. However, if you are focused and committed to making meaningful change, you will see progress towards your goals.

As part of our coaching, we encourage our clients to implement a health journal. Most of our clients are able to see patterns of behavior and identify additional possible triggers of symptoms after a month of tracking.

How is this different from going to a doctor’s appointment?

If you are like most people with chronic illness, you have been to a lot of doctor’s appointments. Maybe you love your doctor, maybe they leave something to be desired. Either way, you see them 1-4 times a year.

Coaching is not medical treatment. It is a goal setting and accountability framework that allows you to meaningfully change your habits and mindset. If your Coach believes that you need additional medical or mental health treatment, we will refer you for care.

Will you work with my doctor or other care providers?

Of course! We have a lot of experience working with multi-disciplinary care teams and will collaborate with the rest of your team, at your request. If you would prefer that we do not work with the rest of your care team, we can still have a productive coaching relationship.
